Rebellious teen Jim Majelewski (Tom Bresnahan) is sent by his teachers and parents to a mental research institute run by Dr. Anthony Blakely (Re-Animator's David Gale) and is subjected to strange experiments. Blakely presents a TV show called "Independent Thinking" which is broadcast from the institute, in which he preaches his message to an increasingly rapt audience.

What is the link between the show and the secret that is hidden beneath the institute? Why are Blakely's viewers committing random acts of terrible violence and suffering horrible hallucinations? With his girlfriend (Cyndy Preston) as his only ally and even his own parents against him, Jim must expose Dr. Blakely and his institute for what he now knows it really is.
