26.07.10 - Brad Pitt to star in World War Z
http://www.forevergeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/world-war-z.jpg

A-list celeb is now attached... could become the best zombie movie ever!
Quote:
WORLD WAR Z: MTV just landed the beefiest scoop of the week. While chatting up WORLD WAR Z author Max Brooks at the booth for comic publisher Avatar Press, the writer confirmed to MTV News that the adaption of his novel about the zombie apocalypse is not only moving forward, but Brad Pitt is now officially attached to star in the film. The book is a sober telling of the aftermath of a war fought against a legion of humans who were inflicted with a virus, died and were reanimated into flesh-eating zombies. Additionally, Brooks revealed that Paramount has optioned the movie rights to two more of his projects: THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE and THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE RECORDED ATTACKS graphic novel. 26.07.10 - Bruce Campbell on True Blood
http://www2.eugeneweekly.com/2003/graphics/110603movie1.jpg

Awesome news!
Quote:
True Blood creator Alan Ball has revealed that he is unsure about introducing the character of Bubba into the HBO drama.

In the original novels by Charlaine Harris, 'Bubba' is a vampiric Elvis Presley. During the True Blood panel at Comic-Con, Ball explained that he was uncertain if the character would work on television. He also admitted that he was hesitant to have an actor impersonate Elvis.

When fans in the audience shouted actor Bruce Campbell's name at Ball, he reportedly smiled and replied, "Bruce Campbell, huh?"

Campbell previously played an aged version of Elvis in the 2002 comedy horror Bubba Ho-Tep.

It was recently announced that the USA network had ordered a Burn Notice prequel film starring Campbell as his character Sam Axe.

True Blood continues on Sundays at 9pm on HBO.

26.07.10 - Exploit ran against images.dead-donkey.com
When I logged on to check today it seems that someone had defaced the website with some turkish gibberish, assuming this isn't about that case of mistaken identity ( There are no Bothan Spies! Go about your business ), this was a silly act of defacing the site.

As far as I can see a very silly script I'd copied up to combat being banned from imageshack was exploited and the hacker uploaded a public / free script disguised as an image and then executed it.

I've checked some logs and am currently investigating any damaga. In the meantime, I've scrubbed the installs and checked out the site a fresh from svn.

I accidentally forgot to copy some templates across on the website portal, so that was the 500 error you were seeing... i was dragged into a meeting at work.

15.07.10 - Suspira Remake news
http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-content/images/poster-suspiria-french1-411x600.jpg
Quote:
SUSPIRIA remake: Marco Morabito spoke to Italian press recently and addressed the remake of Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA, a project announced with director David Gordon Green. According to the producer, Argento himself has signed off on the rights to allow the picture to happen. And even though Green has been courted with many other film offers, it looks like shooting will begin in early 2011.

But for those following the progress of the redo, they know the start date is a fickle one as, in 2009, another producer, Luca Guadagnino, said shooting would take place this year. Green has YOUR HIGNESS hitting theaters later this year. And no, Marilyn Manson, says Morabito, is not going to appear in SUSPIRIA a if it ever happens. (thanks to ShockTillYouDrop.com)

04.07.10 - Cast ditching Scream reboot
http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-content/images/scream4mockposter.jpeg

Truth be told I'm not a big fan of Scream, never have been and likely never will be. However, seems there's something of a exodus from Wes Craven's reboot as several key cast members have decided to back out of the movie.
Quote:
** SCRE4M: The cast is dropping like flies before their characters (possibly) get killed in the upcoming sequel. Actress Lauren Graham's is out of the Wes Craven sequel. Graham isn't the first to walk away. Lake Bell departed the project last week. (thanks to Bloody-Disgusting.com)

25.06.10 - The first Hammer film to hit Blu-Ray
On 26 August 2010 Eureka will issue Freddie Francis' Paranoiac (1963) on DVD and Blu-ray, marking the first Hammer movie to make the transition to Blu-ray and hopefully the first of a package of other Hammer titles heading this way from Eureka.
Quote:
http://images.dead-donkey.com/images-transload/06.25.10/paranoaicblu.jpg

A forgotten gem from the legendary Hammer Studios, available for the first time on home video in the UK, this sinister classic spins a gruesome web of unhappy families. It is three weeks before the Ashby siblings Simon (Oliver Reed), a brutish alcoholic, and Eleanor (Janette Scott), a nervous wreck, are to come into their late parents' inheritance. While Simon plans to have his sister certified insane and locked away, Eleanor keeps seeing the lurking figure of their long-dead brother Tony around the estate. Who or what is this apparition, and does he threaten to reveal skeletons in the closet (and elsewhere)?

A massively entertaining horror treat in the best English Gothic tradition, Paranoiac features a superbly oily lead performance from a young Oliver Reed, stunning black & white Cinemascope photography, an ingenious script by Jimmy Sangster, and gripping direction by the great Freddie Francis.

Featuring legendary actor Oliver Reed (Gladiator, The Devils, Women in Love), Paranoiac is classic British gothic horror, of the same era as The Innocents, Repulsion, The Haunting, Dracula, These Are The Damned.

One of the very first video compilations of classic horror and exploitation trailers is finally making its way to DVD. MAD RON’S PREVUES FROM HELL, which originally hit VHS way back in 1987, is set to make its disc debut September 14.

Virgil Films—whose president, Joe Amodei, was one of the executive producers and can be seen in a small role—will release the DVD. In addition to showcasing coming attractions for such classics as NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, I DRINK YOUR BLOOD and 44 others, PREVUES FROM HELL surrounds them with an actual storyline involving “Mad Ron” and an audience of zombies, introduced by ventriloquist Nick Pawlow and his undead pal “Happy.” Directed by Jim Monaco, these sequences feature makeup FX by Jordu Schell (who went on to such major genre features as THE MIST, ALIENS VS. PREDATOR—REQUIEM, CLOVERFIELD and AVATAR) and Jay Kushwara.

“Horror fans fall into a different sector than most film enthusiasts; there is much more intensity and infatuation than any other genre,” says Amodei. “This compilation does not skimp on blood, gore and thrills; it emphasizes everything that is great about horror films. It’s campy and it’s fun, and it makes a perfect party DVD for the not-too-squeamish.” You can see MAD RON’S Facebook page here.

06.06.10 - John Carpenter's Fangland
http://www.shockya.com/news/wp-content/uploads/fangland.jpg
Quote:
Since Ghost of Mars (all the way back in 2001), there have been a lot of announcements about John Carpenter directing this or that film, many of which still haven't materialized. But hopefully that won't be the case for Fangland, which Carpenter will direct based on a Mark Wheaton script, adapted from the novel by John Marks. It's a shame Carpenter doesn't write his own stuff anymore, but 1998's Vampires was also based on a book, and while it's not exactly one of his best films, it IS one of his most successful (apart from the mega-budget dud Escape From LA, it was his highest grossing film since 1984's Starman), so hopefully he'll find the same success here. And with The Ward in the final stages of post production, this could mean back to back Carpenter films for the first time since the mid 90s! Read on for a few story details, courtesy of Variety.

Via Variety:

John Carpenter has signed on to direct "Fangland," an updated version of Bram Stoker's Dracula set up with DAS Films and Blumhouse Prods.

Sriram Das and Jason Blum are producing. Tracy Underwood's also involved in a producing capacity.

"Fangland" is based on the 2007 novel by former "60 Minutes" producer John Marks. It's centered on a New York-based producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer, who turns out to be a modern-day Dracula.

Sounds pretty cool. Now they just need to get Dean Cundey to shoot the film, and Kurt Russell to play the vampire! I WANT MY OLD-SCHOOL CARPENTER BACK.

06.06.10 - The Lost Boys 3: The Thirst
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/drunken_rabba/LOSTBOYS3-FINALWITHRABBASIGWB.jpg
Quote:
THE LOST BOYS 3 THE THIRST: Probably the only good thing coming out of this sequel will be the casting of the gorgeous South African model turned actress Tanit Phoenix. Here's what she had to say in a recent interview: "What I found very interesting about the Lost Boys script was that it showcases vampires how they really are, blood-sucking and evil, which somewhat dances around the fact that TWILIGHT made their vampires seem beautiful, but they really are not."

As for working with Corey Feldman, who is reprising his role as vampire hunter Edgar Frog in the film, Phoenix opined, "Corey is very sweet. He takes his work seriously. But he is just a big kid!" When asked if maybe her character, Gwen Lieber, a wealthy vampire-romance novelist, ends up a little bruised and battered in her dealings with Frog, she laughed and said, "I wanted to play a bad girl, and I finally got my chance, [but] the most physical I got was getting into skimpy outfits." She is also starring in DEATH RACE FRANKENSTEIN LIVES. (thanks to MovieHole.net)

30.05.10 - RIP Dennis Hopper

Quote:
Hollywood actor Dennis Hopper has died at the age of 74 following a battle with prostate cancer.

Known for such cult classics as Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet, Hopper embodied the image of the Hollywood icon.

Hopper died on Saturday morning surrounded by friends and family at his home in Venice, California.

He was last seen in public in March when he was honoured with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

"Dennis Hopper died this morning at 8:15 am from complications of metastasised prostate cancer. He died at home in Venice surrounded by family and friends," manager Sam Maydew said in a statement.

Hopper directed the 1969 counter-culture road movie Easy Rider, which he co-wrote with and starred alongside Peter Fonda. The pair were nominated for a best screenplay Academy Award.

"Dennis introduced me to the world of Pop Art and 'lost' films. We rode the highways of America and changed the way movies were made in Hollywood. I was blessed by his passion and friendship," Fonda told the TMZ website following Hopper's death.

Following a promising start to his career, with a role in James Dean's Rebel Without a Cause, Hopper developed a reputation as a hell-raiser with a penchant for drink and drugs.

Following his success with Easy Rider, and the disastrous The Last Movie, his on-set clashes with directors and fellow actors saw him effectively blacklisted by Hollywood.

It took nearly 10 years for Hopper to win back starring roles, with his critically acclaimed role in David Lynch's Blue Velvet marking a turning point in his career, although his personal life remained turbulent.

Wed five times, his final marriage, to Victoria Duffy, turned into an acrimonious split in 2010 when she accused his family of trying to cut her out of his life.

In April a judge ruled that Duffy, who shared a young daughter with Hopper, could remain at the marital home.

It was during the court hearings that it was revealed Hopper was terminally ill with prostate cancer, following his diagnosis last year.

29.05.10 - Don't Be Afraid of the Dark remake
http://goremasternews.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/dont-be-afraid-of-the-dark1.jpg

Seems the classic 1973 horror film, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is set for a butchery, starring none other than Katie Holmes:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270761/

Strangely, Guillermo del Toro is attached as writer. You'd expect him to be concentrating solely on his Hobbit duties and less on bit part remakes.

29.05.10 - George A. Romero NOT remaking Deep Red

Well seems that was a mistake, George A Romero is not remaking Dario Argento's classic
Quote:
George A. Romero not remaking Dario Argento's DEEP RED: Fans around the world where furious with last week's Variety's announcement that PROFONDO ROSSO was being remade in 3D with George Romero in the director's chair. And the more we hear, the more it sounds like Variety was off the mark big time. Last week, Romero himself said there was no deal. Now Argento is speaking out about the project. He told an audience, quite simply, at the Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors yesterday that the DEEP RED remake is "not true. (thanks to ShockTillYouDrop.com)

29.05.10 - Tetsuo: The Bullet Man
Freaky japanese shit for you!
Quote:

Shinya Tsukamoto's TETSUO THE BULLET MAN: Calm office worker Anthony, son of an American father and a Japanese mother, lives in Tokyo with his wife, Yuriko, and their little son Tom. Since Anthony's mother died of cancer, his scientist father has been overly fearful for his son's and grandson's health and rigidly subjects Anthony and Tom to monthly physicals.

Walking home one day, Tom is killed in a hit and run before Anthony's eyes. Losing their boy pushes Yuriko over the edge and triggers violent emotions in Anthony, whose body begins to transform. Little by little, his cells turn into iron. When the driver who killed Tom reappears and Anthony learns the truth about his father's past experiments on human guinea pigs and about his mother's death, Anthony mutates into a mass of metal--a human weapon fueled by an uncontrollable rage. 29.05.10 - Mr Eko cast in The Thing prequel

** THE THING prequel: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, best known to me as the badass Simon Adebisi in HBO's OZ and Mr. Eko in LOST, has landed the role of "Derek Jameson" in Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment's THE THING prequel that's now underway in Toronto, Canada. Akinnuoye-Agbaje also starred in G.I.JOE RISE OF COBRA. Being directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., he'll star alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton. The prequel to John Carpenter's 1981 remake takes us to a remote Antarctica outpost where an alien spaceship is discovered far beneath the ice. 16.05.10 - George A. Romero remaking Deep Red
In 3d, as you might have guessed.
Quote:
Oh the surprises of Cannes -- and this one is a doozy. Get ready for Deep Red in 3D -- not by Dario Argento but from zombie icon George A. Romero. Word has it that Romero is in advanced negotiations to helm a completely unnecessary stereoscopic remake in English of Argento's cult classic. The 1975 masterpiece Deep Red, about a string of supernatural splatter murders, is considered Argento's gem giallo and the film that established his international standing. Claudio Argento, who is Dario's brother and regular producer, has penned the screenplay for Romero's redo. Plan is to start shooting this fall in Canada. Though Dario Argento and George Romero go back a long way -- he collaborated with Romero on zombie classic Dawn of the Dead, on which he has producer credit, and they also co-directed Two Evil Eyes in 1990 -- Dario Argento will not be involved in Romero's remake in any guise. This news makes me a little sick to my stomach, you?
