08.06.09 - Swedish Pirate Party headed to European Parliament
This may sound ridiculous, but is actually true. There is a party in Sweden that stands on the side of p2p piracy. In yesterday's elections they managed to get enough votes to send one representative into the European Parliament.

Click here for the official results of the Swedish EP voting: http://www.val.se/val/ep2009/valnatt/rike/index.html
Quote:
Sweden's pro-file sharing Pirate Party is on its way to Brussels having secured more than 7 percent of the country's votes in the European Parliament elections, according to early exit polls.

08.06.09 - The Last Guardian
I found this E3 2009 video of the 'sequel' to Shadow of the Collosus, which was a 'prequel' to ICO.

Looks stunning, like the previous two. Scheduled for a 2010, and unfortunately is made by a Sony dev team so won't be played by most of us Sad

07.06.09 - Germany Gov. covers ears and hums
Great idea tosspots; or alternatively, why don't you euthanise your retarded children and maybe, you know, ban guns?
Quote:
Game Politics reports that Germany’s sixteen Interior Ministers have asked the Bundestag to ban the production and distribution of violent video games. This would mean violent videogames could not be purchased at retail or online in Germany, and that companies like CryTek would have to leave the country to continue production of their games. (That, or come up with creative solutions. Perhaps replace all the guns with vomiting cats? Would flicked elastic bands work, or do they come under violence?) Some more thoughts on this beyond the jump.

The move by Germany’s central government seems to have been inspired by the media reaction to recent school shooting in Winnenden, Germany, in which a seventeen year old killed sixteen people. It emerged that the perpetrator played Far Cry 2 and CounterStrike, as well as table tennis. He was also an unhappy teenage boy. Needless to say, fatuous conclusions were drawn.

It’s perhaps worth noting there has never actually been any evidence to show that violence in videogames increases the likelihood for gamers to go on a rampage with deadly firearms.

Nightmarish censorship implications aside, the potential outright banning of violent games certainly suggests that this could be a fascinating social experiment: will there be any less violence in Germany as a result of violent videogames being banned? Will peace and love break out among alienated teenagers who are denied gory entertainments? Or will creating yet another taboo simply make the experience of playing violent videogames even more transgressive, and therefore even more exciting? Hard to know, eh? Yeah, it really is.

Then again, perhaps there won’t be any correlation at all, and Germany will be left looking for something else to blame when another bunch of people get their lives taken away. And, you know, MAYBE THERE’S ANOTHER FACTOR INFLUENCING THESE SHOOTINGS.

07.06.09 - Shadow of the Collosus: Movie
http://images.dead-donkey.com/uploads/1244357604shadow.jpg

oh dear lord, by the master scribe behind Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
Quote:
The old showbiz saying goes, "You're only as good as your last job." And though that axiom may hold true for much of Hollywood, it doesn't seem to apply to game-based movie projects. Case in point: Andrzej Bartkowiak, the director of the big-screen version of Doom. When that project bombed, he was promptly given the job of helming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Now, despite The Legend of Chun-Li adaptation's spectacular flame-out at box offices and with reviewers, its screenwriter has been handed another beloved, award-winning game license. According to both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Marks has been asked to write the script for a big-screen version of Team Ico's Shadow of the Colossus. Currently, the scribe is working on a remake of 20,000 Leagues: Under the Sea for director McG (Terminator: Salvation, Charlie's Angels).

According to the trades, the big-screen Shadow of the Colossus is in the early stages of development at Sony Pictures Entertainment, sibling to the game's publisher, Sony Computer Entertainment. It will be produced by Kevin Misher, who worked on The Interpreter and this summer's Michael Mann-directed, Johnny Depp-starring gangster epic Public Enemies. He is also attached to a new adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune, to be directed by Peter Berg (Hancock).

Hailed by reviewers on its release in 2005, the PlayStation 2-exclusive Shadow of the Colossus sold more than 900,000 copies in the US. Developed by Team Ico, which is working on its PlayStation 3 debut, the game follows a young warrior who has brought his fallen love to a faraway temple in the hopes of restoring her to health. According to a mysterious presence that dwells within the temple's walls, the only way to save this girl is to hunt down and destroy the 16 massive beasts that roam the surrounding lands. To see how the quest goes, check out the video review below.

Looks like a good survival horror... like Alone in the Dark done properly. This has overtones of Lovecraftian horror. A writer's work comes to life, yadda, yadda, yadda... shoot things! Smile

05.06.09 - Alien Remake/Reboot confirmed - new ripley
http://images.dead-donkey.com/uploads/1244244926Alien-Special-Edition.png

In related news Stephen Speilberg, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, John Carpenter, Sam Raimi and George Romero are forming a new production company and remaking YOUR CHILDHOOD.

That's right, every intimite moment, every treasured memory will be raped with CGI dewbacks, running zombies and emo Jedi.
Quote:
ALIEN remake/reboot: Its now almost official, Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and even Tony Scott are all on board to produce and have tapped Carl Rinsch to get beyond the camera and bring a new Ripley to the big screen. Who is Carl Rinsch? He's a commercial/music video director and does work for Scott Free Productions, who is also producing the remake. (thanks to Bloody-Disgusting.com)

The recent downtime was caused by a fault within our hosts
infrastructure and our inability to contact them throughout this period.

They appear to have restarted but have not responded to our tickets.
I'm going to look for a better solution. I'm in a position where i can
spend more money from my own pocket on a better hosting solution if
necessary but finding a good host is one of those impossible tasks.

05.05.09 - Brazil 2: Zero Theorem
http://www.gothamgazette.com/graphics/iotw.2003.11.10.inside1.jpg

Potentially fantastic news to anybody who loves cinema. Terry Gilliam, arguably the world's greatest director, is returning to roots to create a 'loose' sequel to Brazil, arguably the world's greatest film.
Quote:
Qohen Leth, a socially maladjusted “cubicle zombie” with a genius for computer work, is waiting for a phone call. His entire life has been consumed with the wait for this call. He doesn’t know the nature and origin of the call, but he knows it will provide him with the purpose that he has long lived without.

Qohen is given a special project by his corporate managers. His task is to solve a mysterious theorem that has stumped, and mentally broken, the long list of computer geniuses that were previously assigned the job.

Living in an Orwellian corporate world where “mancams” serve as the eyes of a shadowy figure known as Management, Qohen works on a solution to the strange theorem while living in isolation in his home—the shattered interior of a fire-damaged chapel.

01.05.09 - Alien prequel...
Its the on again/off again Scott Alien film. This franchise needs a injection of quality after it was destroyed by all the other frivelous sequels and cashins after alien 3.
Quote:
After the way things turned out with the Alien vs Predator franchise, it’s hard to be enthusiastic about anyone doing more with either iconic monster. But Robert Rodriguez has been given free reign to remake Predator, and with him in charge maybe that might be horrible. There’s also talk of an Alien prequel, but don’t worry: it sounds like they’ll only do it if it’s directed by original Alien director Ridley Scott.

IESB talked to Fox head honcho Tom Rothman who confirmed that there has been some discussion of doing an Alien prequel, and what’s more Ridley has an idea he’s toying with for it. He’s busy with Robin Hood right now, but afterward? It sound like the door is open. Says Rothman, “I mean, it's always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I've got my fingers crossed, all of them.”

01.05.09 - Videodrome Remake: What the giddy f&&k?!?
Seriously, this has to be the most retarded idea ever....

Quote:
The new picture will modernize the concept, infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.

So why is it called Videodrome other than to leech upon the sucess of the original?
Quote:
I'm all for remakes, I really am, but if you're going to do it, can you at least take it seriously? While Ehren Kruger stumbled his way into the writing job of The Ring remake (a film turned into a gem by director Gore Verbinski) and slightly entertained me with The Skeleton Key, his credentials don't make me smile, especially after the painstaking garbage that was Blood and Chocolate (oh jeez, don't remind me). Now the genre vet is putting his fingers all over one of my all-time favorite movies, David Cronenberg's Videodrome. I won't be eating that anymore.

Universal Pictures will remake the 1983 David Cronenberg-directed thriller "Videodrome," with Ehren Kruger set to write the script and produce with partner Daniel Bobker.

The producers tracked down the rights to Canadian distribution vet Rene Malo, who will be exec producer. Universal distributed the original and had first refusal on a remake, and the studio snapped up the opportunity.

The original "Videodrome" starred James Woods as the head of Civic TV Channel 83, who makes his station relevant by programming "Videodrome," a series that depicts torture and murder that transfixes viewers.

The new picture will modernize the concept, infuse it with the possibilities of nano-technology and blow it up into a large-scale sci-fi action thriller.

Cronenberg has no role in the film as yet. He is prepping for MGM "The Matarese Circle" as a starring vehicle for Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington. Since Cruise appears likely to next star in the DreamWorks drama "Motorcade" and Washington has committed to the Fox drama "Unstoppable," "Circle" doesn't appear likely to get under way until later this year or 2010.

Bobker/Kruger Films recently set the thriller "Dream House" at Morgan Creek and is producing, with Matthew Stillman, "The Keep" for Rogue. Kruger co-wrote the June 24 Paramount/DreamWorks release "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

27.04.09 - Bubba 2: Campbell out, Perlman in!
Not sure what to think to be honest, Campbell was great in the original.
Quote:
BUBBA NOSFERATU: The long-delayed BUBBA HO-TEP sequel is finally nearing a production start date. Don Coscarelli returns to write and direct again. Unfortunately, Bruce Campbell has decided to pass on the second go-round, but it's hard not to like his replacement, Ron Perlman. Also the addition of Paul Giamatti as Elvis’ shady manager Col. Tom Parker makes the project particularly intriguing.

The Bloody-Disgusting web site spoke to Perlman yesterday and the actor confirmed that the wheels are in motion to get NOSFERATU off the ground this year. “I’m hearing that its looking really, really good that we’ll shoot it the minute I get done with SONS OF ANARCHY, which is early October,” Perlman had to say.

The plot is “under wraps,” according to Perlman, but the actor did say that the story is a good one and very much in line with the first film. “As sequels go, it won’t disappoint,” says Perlman. “If you liked the first one, I think you’re going to really dig the new take.”

Although the casting of Perlman as the King of Rock n’ Roll may seem a bit odd, its probably no odder than the casting of Bruce Campbell when we first heard it. “I loved the original,” says Perlman. “I was really surprised to hear that Bruce Campbell did not want to reprise the role. So we have his blessing. I know Bruce and I would never want to go in and replace him unless he said, ‘Hey man, I don’t want to do this one again, but good luck with it.’ So I loved the original. I love the fact that this one has Paul Giamatti in it, who I am a huge, huge fan of. And its a cool script.”

Perlman says it was his love of the original movie that drew him to NOSFERATU rather than any particular desire to play out a lifelong Elvis fantasy. “I was never an Elvis freak,” admits Perlman. “The frenzy that he whipped the world into, I did not become a part of. I admire him and I think he was a really compelling figure, but his music wasn’t the kind I was listening to as a kid growing up. I was a jazz guy. Elvis for me was more of an acquired taste, but I think he was an amazingly talented guy who had a very tragic life because he was such a slave to what the world wanted from him. In that regard, he really touches me.”

So is Perlman practicing his hip-swivel in front of the mirror? “I’m hoping that it kind of just washes over me when I put on the white jumpsuit.”

27.04.09 - Child's Play Remake
Don't know why they are bothering but at least Douriff is in it!
Quote:
CHILD'S PLAY remake: This weekend Brad Dourif - who played Charles Lee Ray (also known as Chucky) in the franchise - was on hand at a horror convention where he confirmed that he will in fact once again play the voice of Chucky. He told fans that after hearing from a random guy at a drug store that he wasn't returning, he called Don Mancini and asked, "Are you remaking 'Child's Play'?" Mancini exclaimed, "Yeah, you're gonna do it, right?" Dourif screamed, "YES!" Although, no word on when Universal plans on putting this sucker into production.

27.04.09 - Predator remake: Robert Rodriguez producing
Reboot / Rape planned for something that needs either.

Then again, maybe he means reboot in a none remake capacity? Lets hope!
Quote:
PREDATOR remake: Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios was behind a PREDATOR reboot tentatively titled PREDATORS. Here's the synopsis, "In the reboot a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters." This afternoon our friends at IESB confirmed our news while adding something big, "IESB has also confirmed it will be Rodriguez' own take on the original concept and he is in fact not only producing the reboot, he's also directing it."

In a news conference today at Troublemaker Studios, several Texas state politicians were in attendance to sign HB 873, the long-awaited reform of the Texas film incentive program.

Rodriguez talked to the audience of press members and revealed his upcoming film slate.

"I'm going to be able to shoot my upcoming MACHETE here, a sci-fi action film called NERVEWRACKERS, a re-boot of the PREDATOR series called PREDATORS, and a couple of smaller movies called SIN CITY 2 and THE JETSONS." (thanks to Iesb.net)

24.04.09 - S. Darko ... on DVD next week
The sequel to the famous Donnie Darko movie will be released on 28th April 2009.
It is a direct movie to DVD project and therefore won't be shown in any cinema. This is not promising.

IMDb link for the movie: www.imdb.com/title/tt1231277/
Despite the votes on that page, the movie is not released yet. Laughing

Quote:
Samantha Darko (Daveigh Chase) and her rebellious best friend Corey Richardson (Briana Evigan) leave on a cross-country road trip to Los Angeles in an attempt to ‘make it big’. Their dreams are cut short when their water pump blows outside of a tiny Utah town. Unable to leave until their car is fixed, Sam and Corey are stranded with the locals until their car’s fixed. Sam and Corey are less than thrilled at the delay, and when an unexplained meteorite crash-lands in town that night, it soon becomes clear that there is much more at play than just a chance breakdown. Plagued by bizarre hallucinatory dreams warning her of the universe’s imminent end, as well as grief over her own loss of family, Sam must face the demons she had fled back at home. Aided by the unlikely town locals, Sam learns the true meaning of family and friendship, and in doing so, saves only herself.
